It's too bad that our starting chord D does not have a D bass note. Worse, the bottom bass string on a guitar is tuned to E, which really ruins the sound of the D chord. So our first chord requires 3 fingers, has no bass string, and if we bump the bass string that is there it sounds bad. Not exactly a recipe for instant fun.

The E minor (Em) chord is the easiest chord on guitar, but you can't play any songs with it. There are only a few songs you can play with just Em and D, like Sinner Man and Drunken Sailor, which are basically the same song.

Any other ideas? It's still not easy or fun enough.
