Open-tuned instruments with thin strings like the banjo or the dulcimer have always been a great option for beginners who want to get some musical fun happening more quickly. The open tuning gives the resonance that is so rewarding to beginners, and the thinner strings are easier to fret and don't hurt as much. With an autoharp all you need to do is push buttons and strum...
But those instruments are just not fashionable and don't command the same "respect." Guitar sales are 1000 times larger than the banjo, and clearly most people would rather play guitar.
Any other ideas? |
